Summer holiday books

So far this weekend...

Finished 'The Brilliant World Of Tom Gates' by Liz Pichon. Funny, probably better than Wimpy Kid. Will be looking for the sequels. I can see why they were so popular in class

Finished 'Gone' by Michael Grant. Loved this, absolutely brilliant. The next two are already lined up by my bed to read.

Started 'Run Zan Run' by Cathy Macphail. A fast paced and gripping (so far) story about a young girl who is bullied at school. Whilst walking home, she meets a girl called Zan who helps her out with her problems. Without giving too much away, it seems as if Zan has enough issues of her own to deal with.

Please share anything exciting that you are reading- or if you've picked up a book and found it to be a real disappointment, let everyone know! With the Olympics coming up, I would be really interested in hearing if anyone has read any great books about sport. I really enjoy the books by Tom Palmer- Foul Play, Dead Ball, Off Side, Killer Pass and Own Goal. Football, kidnapped players, murdered managers...and a fourteen year old detective!

  1. I totally reccomend the Girls FC books by Helena Pielichaty! Read the first two and started the 3rd- they're great! Theres over ten different books that lead on from eachother! So, if your a girl and like football (like me) I'd definitely reccomend them :)

As I've said, Im reading the Girls FC books. Ive also got the fourth book ready to read and reserved the 5th and 6th books (which I'm hoping will be at the library tuesday at the earliest or sometime before thursday night when i go on holiday!) Im hoping that they will be there because i will have 5 great books to read in 2 weeks in the 40 degrees Turkey sun while im not in the pool or sea, if i get time! :)

  3. I've heard of those Danielle (the Girls FC books)- supposed to be great. Alone On A Wide Wide Sea is one of MM's books that I haven't read- I'd be really interested in hearing what you think of it. Have a look in the library for anything by Catherine Macphail. I've just finished one of hers (Run Zan Run) and it was great. Just starting on Mortlock now. Enjoy your holiday!

  5. Mortlock by Jon Mayhew is definitely worth a look. Two Victorian orphans, a mysterious circus, demons, death and resurrection... Really easy to read, some great action scenes, very exciting. I enjoyed this a lot and will be looking out for his other book (which I suspect is also probably about demons, as it is called The Demon Collector).
