Most popular books

As we are coming to the end of the year, I've had a quick look at which books have been borrowed and signed out the most often. I'm incredibly impressed with how much you lot read!

The most popular books recently have definitely been the Malorie Blackman books (Hacker, Thief, ANTIDOTE and Pig Heart Boy). Everyone who's read them has loved them!

The Skulduggery Pleasant books by Derek Landy have also been read by lots of people- we've got some real fans of Valkyrie Cain, Tanith Low, Ghastly Bespoke and the rest. My own personal favourite is Verminous Cube...

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has been another popular one. You really have to concentrate in order to get the most from it- the film is also great BUT read the book first!

Other popular books include anything by Anthony Horowitz, Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian (we also watched the DVD of this in Literacy) and 12 Minutes To Midnight by Christopher Edge.

This is a fantastic book about  an orphan called Penelope Tredwell, a girl who writes spooky tales set in Victorian Britain. One day she receives a letter from the governor of the notorious Bedlam madhouse... and things go from bad to worse very quickly!

  1. AS a huge fan of Skulduggery Pleasant I'm very pleased to see he has a mention: if you love books with a little magic, a lot of action and a good dose of fun, then I'm sure you'll love him too!(Oh and the most charismatic character has to be Rebellious Corner, I'm sure you'd agree Mr Biddle!)
I'd also recommend Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series. Alex is a teenage spy who travels the world on dangerous missions, dealing with evil villains using his cool martial arts skills and some awesome spy gadgets!

  2. I've just opened a big box from Amazon. Lots in there to keep people going over the summer: Knife by RJ Anderson (about a fairy who gets captured and put in a box by humans), Run Zan Run and Out Of The Depths by Cathy Macphail and The Printer's Devil by Paul Bajoria. Personally I'm most looking forward to reading the 'Gone' series by Michael Grant...Suddenly it's a world without adults and normal has crashed and burned. Chaos rules the streets...

  3. I really enjoyed reading Kensukes Kingdom becaue I really liked the idea that a young boy named Michael is stranded on an island where he meets this old man called Kensuke and at first Kensuke wasn't very fond of Michael but at the end he actually likes Michael more and I loved reading this superb book and I strongly recommend reading this book its packed with action and excitement at every page.

  4. I,m a big fan of the Hunger games by Susan Collins because you can picture what the book says in your own way. Also, you can imagine that your actually in the games fighting, hunting and killing for survival. You can experience what it feels like being in the Hunger games when your not. These triolgy of books are about a young 16 year old girl named Katness Everdeen who bravely took over her 12 year old sister Prim Everdeen of taking the death riding challenge the Hunger games. The boy from district 12 was Peeta Mellark, when he and Katness were taken to district 12 arena where they prepare for the hunger games . They meet 4 new people who are also helping to prepare for the games they're Cinna and Portia who are the stylists they help them look smart for interviews and live introductions. There is Effie Trinket who hosts the games and there's Haymitch who pays for the contestants to train. When the games begin will Katness Everdeen survive or die... read the books first before the film because the book is more detailed. I highly recommend these books to aged 10 and upwards.

  5. I really enjoyed reading the boy in striped pyjmas and good night Mr.Tom(maybe they could be added to this amazing website.) These books are'nt just ordinary book they are heart melting and fun books to read! In gooodnight Mr.Tom you find alot about Tom's and Williams personality! When I started reading this book I could'nt stop but read on. Throughtout the story you find why Tom was'nt so keen on having another person in his lonley cottage but after he has William for a couple of months his feelings change! Aswell as gooodnight Mr.Tom the boy in the striped pyjamas is a amazing book to read because even though you may be the richest of people you can play with the poorest of people! It doesen't matter where you come from or who you are!

  6. Like Brooklyn, I am also a big fan of The Hunger Games! I have read the first two books which were both extremely good and well writen! I started the third book but i need to borrow it from a library to continue it when i get time!
The Hunger Games is a fantastic fast moving, adventure book which makes you feel although your actually in the games! It has well detailed scenes which are a great help to your imagination!
The books are about a young girl (Katniss Everdeen) aged 16 who first goes into the Hunger Games when she volunteers to take her sister (Primrose Everdeen) aged 12's place!
Katniss's fellow tribute in the game is Peeta Mellark (who is deeply in love with Katniss).
I won't give the story away but nearer the end of the book, Katniss does something which doesn't impress the Capitol as she outsmarted them. This puts Katniss and her friends, family and nearlly the whole of Panem in danger!
I totally reccomend the Hunger Games for more challenged readers as some words may not be underestood, also anyone who doesn't like much gore or fighting, i wouldn't reccomend this to you! Other than that, DONT HESITATE, READ! :)

  8. i like reading sf said, watership down, conspiracy and chris d'lacey fire within and i would recommend fire within to people who like dragons and mysteriers adventures so who ever likes reading them kind of books you'd love fire within its amazing i mean it takes about 8 weeks to read but when you imagine the images in your head you'll love it. conspiracy 365 is about a teenage boy who is being chased after 2 villianis gangs his name is callum ormond his sister was put in intensive car and was on life surport put was neally shut down (died) and his uncle rafe was shot in the head and his father tom riddle was killed in a boating accident. i've read quite alot of fantasy books now and then but i quite like mysterie books because when you stop at the next chapter you just want to find out and keep reading it until the end so you get quite anxiosious because you just really want to find out whats happened in the end!

  9. I like reading Skullduggery Pleasent because its a book that you can get stuck into and its made up of a series of books that make a whole exciting adventure and Skullduggery is about a skeleton detective who is training his sidekick(I forgot name) and saving the world and they kick loads of bad guys butts and learn new spells along the way. Also I would strongly recommend reading this book because once you have read the 1st book you'll want to read the whole series.
